The company you work for, the school your kids attend, the government you live under, all have a mission statement. Why?
- It defines who you are as a family
- It outlines what you believe
- It guides your decisions and actions
As Proverbs 29:18 (NKJV) reminds us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
We can easily get overwhelmed by the idea of trying to create a family mission statement but we’ve made it easy. Check out these steps and then download the PDF below.
Creating a mission statement isn’t complicated. Here’s how to do it:
1. Gather Your Family
Start by bringing everyone together. This is a team effort. Even young children can contribute ideas.
2. Discuss Your Values
What matters most to your family? Is it faith, education, service? List your top values.
3. Define Your Purpose
Why does God have your family together? What’s His plan for you?
4. Draft Your Statement
Keep it short and memorable. Aim for one or two sentences.
5. Refine And Finalize
Take time to polish your statement. Make sure it truly represents your family.
Once you have it, display it and use it! If it needs to be adjusted over time, do that!
